This Broadway hit was written by Neil Simon in the style of a comedy by Anton Chekov. The publisher, Samuel French, calls it “a composite of Neil Simon and Anton Chekhov.” It is set in Russia during the 19th century. The stories are droll, the portraits affectionate, the humor infectious and the fun unending. It first opened on Broadway in 1973 and had a 208-performance run. Frances Sternhagen won the Tony Award as Best Featured actress in a play, and it received four additional Tony Award nominations. In a note of trivia: playwright Neil Simon met his second wife, Marsha Mason, during auditions for the play.
Auditions will be at the WCT Office/Rehearsal Space located at 66-1250 Lalamilo Farm Lot Road off Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea. For more information about this production, contact Felicity Johnson at 808-938-4603.
