As the West side of Hawaii Island prepares for the Ironman race on Saturday, October 13, there is the usual cadre of local swimmers going out and back from Kailua Pier. But they’re joined now by dozens, soon to be more than dozens, of athletes practicing their own swimming in preparation for the big race.
The Kona Jet Ski floating dock in Kailua Bay out from Lava Java and Huggo’s is now offering a “floating coffee bar.” They and Menehune Coffee Company invite all swimmers to take a break in the middle of their swim and have a snack and nice, hot Kona coffee or some tea at the floating jet ski dock. The dock is around a half mile from shore.
The coffee bar will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. from Friday, October 5 through Thursday, October 11.
