PBS Hawaii President and CEO Leslie Wilcox has received the 2012 Businesswoman of the Year-Nonprofit from Pacific Business News.  The award was presented Thursday evening, April 12, at a dinner at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel with more than 450 people.

The event honored 15 Hawaii businesswomen in the for-profit category, with Royal Hawaiian General Manager Kelly Hoen taking top honors as the 2012 Businesswoman of the Year – For Profit.  Ten women from the nonprofit world were honored.

Since assuming the top post at PBS Hawaii in 2007, the former television news anchor has expanded international programming with daily live broadcasts from NHK, Japan’s public broadcasting system. Wilcox also created the nation’s first and only statewide student news network, HIKI NO. Starting its third season, HIKI NO has 73 public, private and charter schools participating in the weekly half-hour newscast.

Recently, HIKI NO received national recognition with the EDGE Award from the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) for the innovative use of digital technology.  Hawaii’s only public television station, PBS Hawaii, reaches viewers across the island state. Locally owned and independent, the non profit media organization is evolving on-air and online to best serve the people of Hawaii.

Through quality programming and community interaction, PBS Hawaii connects with citizens of all ages to share trustworthy information, culture and the arts, and lifelong learning.
